Tricycle was the highlight of my August. Thanks to all who attended in the heat!
For food, classics were probably the favorites: lil' smokies and creamy pasta salad. Recipes follow. I originally wanted to try those dishes I remember from the summertime in my suburban childhood, as a joke or for the sake of nostalgia. But I found that a couple tweaks to the typical ingredient list (aka using real food) can make a truly tasty dish (thanks largely to mayo, cream and sugar). In drinks, the Root of the Earth cocktails were going fast. Well done babe. And a special thanks to Ashlee for contributing Sweet Science ice cream, a big hit!

My creamy pasta salad was inspired by:

This "country housewife"s recipes are top notch. I adjusted just a bit to feature not only pickle relish but pickled piquillo peppers and kalamatas, and I used heavy cream (instead of milk) in addition to mayo as a dressing base.
My smokie sauce:
1/4c roasted Thai chili paste
1 jar (8 oz) all-fruit grape jelly
2 bottles bbq sauce
1 c ketchup
1 c water
